Parishioners are invited to help prepare and serve meals to the homeless and the needy every Thursday at Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen.

This is Houston’s largest soup kitchen, serving 300-350 hungry individuals downtown with a free hot lunch daily.

This is an amazing opportunity for those with free time during the week to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Volunteering Details

Volunteers will meet at SJV at 7:20 a.m. and carpool to the downtown soup kitchen called “Loaves & Fishes” (or you may choose to meet there).

Once there, you will join other volunteers to receive specific instructions from the staff on preparing the meals and then serving them to the hungry.

You will be finished by 12:15 p.m. Please review the available slots below to sign up. Please list everyone volunteering, including minors.  More details about parking, etc., will be emailed prior to your event date. There is a security guard on site and safety precautions are followed.

Note: All minors under age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

No one under age 10 is permitted to attend this event. 

Safe Environment Training

The Safe Environment compliance training and renewal training is a condition of employment and for volunteer ministry in our Archdiocese. All clergy, employees, contracted school personnel, volunteers, members of groups, movements, and organizations over the age of 18, who work, volunteer or participate in any capacity are required to complete the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training and a criminal background check before they may begin volunteer activities. Mandatory renewal training must be completed every five years and a new background check submitted before the five-year expiration of prior training.
